On a recent threat on the <a href="http://www.nuendo.com">Nuendo Forum</a> someone asked for reasons why to use Nuendo over ProTools...
While I understand the lure and atraction to ProTools... I thought I would chime in here and add some reasons why I use Nuendo over ProTools here...
<!--more-->
Keeping in mind that these reasons are TOTALLY personal and not everyone is going to agree with me here....
AND this is not meant in ANY WAY to start a war...
And also keeping in mind that I am comparing Nuendo with ProTools HD and not LE....
These are the reasons why I use Nuendo over ProTools...
<ol>
<li> It sounds better (to my ears) </li>
<li> It's faster (at least it is for me) </li>
<li> I can bounce mixes faster than real time </li>
<li> The user interface is configurable and easier to use </li>
<li> I can use it anywhere without being tied to large pieces of hardware </li>
<li> I don't have to use a Mac for 96/24bit while I travel. (cheezy reason, I know... but I'm a PC guy) </li>
<li> It's prettier (ok, so this doesn't count) </li>
<li> I can CHOOSE my hardware to use with it </li>
<li> This is hard to define, but it 'feels' like it was thought out better (i.e. more Zen-like) </li>
<li> It doesn't cost an arm and a leg everytime the company decides to offer an upgrade or new model. </li>
<li> Macros included </li>
<li> It's an 'open' archtecture using the available VST source code published online. </li>
<li> Greg Ondo is cool and comes with the product </li>
<li> Beautiful girls can carry the entire 96k/24bit system in one hand while bringing capuccino to me in the other. </li>
</ol>
Granted, this was meant to be more 'fun' than factual... But I do love Nuendo and I use it for just about everything mixing and recording wise.
Yes, I own a complete ProTools HD system along with a ProTools LE system... and yes it it true that I purchased BOTH of those system so that I could tell my clients that I own ProTools but choose NOT to use them. (but I DO own them and they ARE here, though I haven't used them for years)
ALL of the rooms and halls that are included in the upcoming <a href="/wordpress/?p=140">"Larry Seyer Acoustic Spaces" library</a> were recorded using Nuendo on my Toshiba Laptop. (the sounds are stellar, BTW... see also <a href="/wordpress/?p=141">this</a>)
Just thought I would chime in here and plug a product that I totally believe in and use everyday.
Congratulations to the Steinberg Team for continuing to provide a totally professional, outstanding product.
Koodos to Steinberg (makers of Nuendo) and all who recognize what a great and powerful product it is.
Best to all!
Larry Seyer

Oh, and I forgot to address an important automation issue...
I have found a much faster way to mix in Nuendo that is not available in ProTools HD.. (at least it is not available without some drawbacks in PTHD)
It is called "Cut and Level" automation...
( see /tips/cnl.htm for a more detailed explanation )
Using this method I am at least 4 times faster mixing on Nuendo than I was on ANY other system including SSL and ProTools... ( I was the fastest mixer using an SSL for years here in Texas)
But using this method, it is possible to mix tracks BEFORE you hear the track's phrase go by... I have literally leveled a vocal track WHILE listening to playback working AHEAD of where the cursor timeline is... (this works for other tracks too... and is not limited to vocals)
Try THAT on ProTools... (you can't)
