I haven't really felt like writing anything for the last couple of days...
But I have a story to share with you about what happened later in the day after we took Comet to the vet Friday
If you have never put an animal down before, it may be hard to relate to the emotional stress that it can put on the owner.
Obviously, it was a very difficult day for me... After returning from the vet, I was pretty much a basket case for the next few hours. Our other dog "Zues" was not doing too well either... He was still looking for Comet to return. This went on for several hours until my wife Karla returned from her errands with our daughter Ashlei.
She offered to cheer me up by buying dinner... so we went to one of our favorite restaurants here in Austin. Karla was driving and I was in the passenger's seat. On the way back I felt Comet crawl in my lap and start licking my face.
This was a surprise to me and I was reluctant to even mention it to Karla because she thinks that kind of stuff is wierd.
I gave Comet a big hug and kiss and asked if he could stay with me... I could tell that he didn't want to. I told him that I loved him and then he left.
As soon as he left, I felt better. I wasn't sad anymore, I wasn't crying... everything was fine. It was a strange experience.
Afterwards, I finally told Karla about it... She was polite and didn't say that she thought I was crazy (even though I know she probably thinks it is wierd)... But I know that it happened.
Since then, I have been totally fine with Comet leaving.
Currently, I am working with Zues to help him through the transistion to being the 'only' dog now.
He's still struggling with it.
More later.
